The
Dale Porter Story This picture all
started as a joke. m Dale Porter's Dad
had at least a 50 year career in the Maintenance of Way department for the
Milwaukee Road having held jobs as section foreman and many years as
roadmaster. Dale had over 32 years as brakeman/conductor at the time the Milwaukee
abandoned "lines west" and he felt bitter that they shut down.
We employees all took our jobs seriously and felt very bad when it shut down
on us. On March 7, 1984 when this picture was taken, Dale and I had attended
a luncheon with other fellow employees at CleElum. Then we came down
to look at the depot property and when he walked up to the depot I immediately
took his picture. When he turned around I said to him, "I took your picture"
and he said to me, "you didn't!" I said, "I did!" When I got the film
developed I liked the picture so well I gave his wife an 8X10 enlargement.
They framed it and it has been in their bathroom ever since. Dale personally gave
me permission to put it on this Website.
